CHIN
recognises the inherent and fundamental value of advocacy as a tool for levering high
returns on investment for its work in an environment where no single actor can make a
significant difference to the lives of children and society at large.
Objectives:
(i)
Policy
Engagement: To
systematically and consistently engage government to adopt, review, amend, implement and
enforce policies, practices, legislation and regulation on childrens rights.
For the
purpose of this strategy, Policy Engagement is defined as a set of activities to
influence government policy, practices, legislation and regulation concerning the welfare
and the rights of children in Zambia.
(ii)
Civic
Engagement: to
build the capacity of communities to participate in development processes that respond to
the fulfillment of childrens rights.
CHIN will
work to cultivate civic responsibility in children, young people and their communities in
order to make a difference in their civic life. We
will develop a combination of knowledge skills, values and motivation to make that
difference. We will do this by providing a safe space for communities to explore issues
surrounding childrens rights that will trigger action and generate dynamic responses.
(iii)
Research:
To undertake research work that will provide evidence for CHIN advocacy work.
Governments
often view with sceptism recommendations made by civil society because these are often not
based on hard evidence. Setting a research agenda that strives to provide evidence for
advocacy work, an agenda that provides new information, fills gaps or provides missing
information is imperative if childrens rights are to be upheld
