Joy Human Development Centre is a Community NGO based in
Garden Compound, working with surrounding communities in
programmes in Education, Health, Sports and Art and Crafts.
It was founded in 2003 by the community and is financially supported by donations from International organizations, volunteers, overseas funding NGOs/ bodies, the communities and individuals.
It is for grassroots level people, vulnerable youths, widows and children - for the community, by the community.
Our programmes are:
Education - we have initiatives for vulnerable children to teach them how to read and write
Health - for children under five years and pregnant women in HIV/Aids, T.B and malaria. We recently took part in a programme called ‘Kick Malaria out of Africa Now’ which was to raise the community’s awareness to malaria as a killer disease and how to utilise mosquito nets properly to avoid infection.
Sports - including activities in soccer, volleyball and basketball for youths and children in talent identification.
Art and crafts - we have training programmes in production and this is where we do our fund raising through selling in local craft markets, craft shops and volunteers organizers dinner parties whose donations sustain the organization.
