Children In Need Network (CHIN) is a national network of non-governmental organisations, community based organisations and faith based organisations working to improve the welfare and uphold the rights of children in Zambia.

Zambia Report on Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children

In its 1996 Agenda for Action, the World Congress Against Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children defined Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) as “sexual abuse by the adult and remuneration in cash or in kind to the child or third person or persons.

 The child is treated as a sexual and commercial object. Some form of coercion and violence against children is used in their exploitation, which is tantamount to forced labour and a contemporary form of slavery.”

CHIN Submits to NCC
CHIN on 29th January 2009 submitted to the National Constitution Conference (NCC) on the rights of the child. 

CHIN Executive Director Pamela Chisanga who made the submission on behalf of CHIN called on the NCC to make certain that the constitution clearly stipulates the role of the State in ensuring that the child is protected against all forms of discrimination or punishment.....

Zambia Social Protection Platform Now at CHIN
CHIN is proud to host the Zambia Social Protection Platform for Civil Society Organisations. The Social Protection Platform was initiated by Africa wide processes in the Nairobi 1 and 2 conferences. It was resolved in these conferences that in order to advance the social protection Agenda, it was necessary to establish social protection platforms at national level. 

CHIN believes that social protection is an essential tool for poverty alleviation and could play a significant role in achieving national development goals. Zambia is currently pursuing its fifth national development plan which recognises social protection as an effective way to draw poor and vulnerable people out of poverty. However, while over 60 percent of Zambia’s population is poor, statistics show that less than ten percent of the total population are beneficiaries of the social protection programs and schemes.

HRC Now with Commissioner for Children
The Human Rights Commission with support from Save the Children Norway and Sweden has established the Office of the Commissioner for Children.

The Office was established using the model of a Children’s Ombudsperson and is housed at the Human Rights Commission – Human Rights House along Independence Avenue. The purpose for establishing the Office of the Commissioner for Children was to set the promotion and protection of Children’s rights as one of the priority areas of focus for the Human Rights Commission as children need special protection and issues affecting them require special attention.......MORE
